Since 1677 — 旭川市, Hokkaido
Since 1677, an Asahikawa brewery whose Monde Selection gold medals have run unbroken for over forty years.
Otokoyama has brewed in Asahikawa since 1677, drawing on the city's natural spring water for sake built around clarity and precision. In 1977 it became the first Japanese sake to win a Monde Selection gold medal, and it has kept winning every year since, a streak now past four decades. The brewery's history is on display at its sake museum, reopened in September 2024 as part of the new OTOKOYAMA SAKE PARK, with free admission. Its Junmai Daiginjo, milled from Hyogo-grown Yamada Nishiki to 38%, sits alongside drier, Kimoto-brewed lines.
