三千櫻
Since 1877 — 東川町, Hokkaido
A 143-year-old Gifu brewery that pulled up its roots and replanted itself under Mt. Taisetsu in 2020.
Michizakura began brewing in Nakatsugawa, Gifu, in 1877, but after 143 years there the house made an extraordinary move: in 2020 it relocated wholesale to Higashikawa, Hokkaido, at the foot of the Taisetsu mountains. Run as a public-private brewery in partnership with the town, Michizakura now draws on Taisetsu mountain water and the Hokkaido rice varieties Aiyama, Suisei and Kitashizuku for its all-Junmai-Daiginjo range. There is no brewery tour, but a small shop sells the sake directly, open mornings through early afternoon, closed Tuesdays.
