STORY

The Story of 吉良酒造

Kira Shuzo was founded in 1871 in Ogata, in the Bungo-Ono area of Oita, close to Harajiri Falls, one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. The kura uses local rice and water drawn from a peak among Japan's Hundred Famous Mountains, and it hand-tends its koji in a traditional muro chamber rather than by machine. Today the fifth generation, Fuminori Kira and his wife Kyoko, run the brewery.
