Sorin — sake for a Christian daimyo, in the birthplace of a novelist.
Kotegawa Shuzo, founded in 1855 in the old town of Usuki, brews Sorin, named in honour of the Christian daimyo Otomo Sorin. The kura is also the birthplace of the novelist Yaeko Nogami — its 150-year-old white-walled storehouse is a registered National Tangible Cultural Property, and the Nogami Yaeko literature museum occupies a corner of the buildings. The house, part of the Fundokin group, also makes shochu.
