民潮
Since 1922 — 宇佐市, Oita
A 1922 offshoot brewery in Usa that now supplies the sacred sake for Usa Jingu, Japan's head shrine of all Hachiman shrines.
Minchou Shuho began in 1922 as a branch of the Tsushimaya brewery in what was then Yanagigaura village, Usa. During the war it supplied sake to the Usa Naval Air Group, and today it serves as an official purveyor to Usa Jingu, the head shrine of Japan's Hachiman network, supplying the sake offered at its altar. The house's name, Minchou, recalls a story from the Shoku Nihongi chronicle: when the monk Houren, founder of Usa Jingu's Mirokuji temple, healed the sick with sake, people are said to have flocked to him 'like a tide.'
Daiginjo — official purveyor to Usa Jingu Shrine Office, sold in 720ml and other bottlings
