Kumagaya's only sake brewery, its label naming a warrior from the Genpei War who called the city home.
Gonda Shuzo has been Kumagaya's sole sake brewery since its founding in 1850, near the close of the Edo period. Its label, Naozane, takes its name from Kumagai Jiro Naozane, a local warrior remembered from the Genpei War between the Taira and Minamoto clans. The brewery has kept to traditional handwork through the generations, brewing sake that remains rooted firmly in its home city and beloved by the local community.
