STORY

The Story of 丸山酒造

Maruyama Shuzo traces to 1873, when founder Maruyama Wakichi started 'Shimazakiya' in what is now Gunma. In 1883 he took over a kura in Yokose, Saitama — today's Fukaya — where the brewery still stands, drawing on the Tone River's abundant, high-quality groundwater. Its guiding aim is 'conveying the wonder of sake.' The flagship label, Kindaisei Masamune, was named by Wakichi himself after kinboshi, the rare 'gold star' honor a sumo wrestler earns for defeating a yokozuna.
