Tokyo's only sake kura within the 23 wards, reborn in a four-story building after a century-long silence.
Wakamatsu traces its roots to Wakamatsuya, a sake shop that served as a merchant to the Satsuma domain in the late Edo period; the business was formally founded in 1910, closed during the Meiji era, and was revived in 2011 as Tokyo Port Brewery. Today it operates from a reinforced-concrete, four-story building on a mere 22 tsubo (about 73 square meters) of land in Shiba, Minato Ward — the only sake brewery within Tokyo's 23 wards. Under strict temperature control, it brews sake, liqueurs, doburoku and umeshu year-round, using Tokyo tap water.
