A 1913 Kuroishi brewery on a covered historic street, named for a legendary drop of cave water that quenched a monk's thirst.
Nakamura Kamekichi has brewed since 1913 along Komise-dori in Kuroishi, Aomori — a covered arcade street preserved as a nationally designated historic district, and once the filming location for NHK's 1986 taiga drama "Inochi." Its label, Tamadare ("Hanging Jewel"), recalls a legend of a monk from Hirosaki's Hoken-ji temple who, training alone in a cave, found the water dripping from the rock so exquisite it soothed his lips — brewing in the Tsugaru toji tradition still carried on in Kuroishi today.
