Sempuku, the sake of a thousand blessings — with gin and whisky beside it in Kure.
Miyake Honten was founded in 1856 in the naval port of Kure, Hiroshima. Its Sempuku — the sake said to summon a thousand blessings — is one of the best-known names in the prefecture, brewed with devotion to air, water, rice and kura. The house also makes gin, whisky, shochu and liqueurs. Tastings are offered at the Gallery Miyakeya Shoten in town, and paid, reservation-only tours cover the bottling works (with sake tasting) and the distillery (with whisky tasting).
