Oita city's last sake brewery standing, brewing local Hinohikari rice with Kumamoto yeast into an internationally awarded tokubetsu junmai.
Kuramitsu Shuzo has brewed in Oita city since 1864 and is today the only sake brewery still operating within the city. It favors Oita-grown Hinohikari rice fermented with Kumamoto yeast, following traditional methods. Its tokubetsu junmai Soju has drawn wide recognition, taking gold at the U.S. National Sake Appraisal, silver at the International Wine Challenge, and first place at Japan's National Sake Competition.
