Goshun has brewed in Ikeda, Osaka, since 1701, taking the name it carries today around 1847, in the mid-Edo period. It stands as the defining name in Ikeda's long sake history, a tradition that once ranked among the most prominent in the wider Kansai region. Production remains small, and Goshun rarely reaches shelves outside a tight circle of retailers, which has made it something of a phantom label — well known by reputation among sake drinkers, but rarely found in hand.
