今小町
Since 1926 — 三好市, Tokushima
A 200-year-old Tokushima merchant house that swapped tobacco for sake in 1926, using Yoshino River water and Yamada Nishiki.
Nakawa Shoten began in 1802 as a maker of shredded tobacco, converting to sake brewing in 1926 — a history spanning more than two centuries. The kura uses water fed by the Yoshino River and polished Yamada Nishiki rice, with the toji and brewing staff crafting each batch by hand. Its flagship, Imakomachi, is known for a fruity aroma and a clean, elegant umami. The office, kura, brewing hall, toji quarters and chimney are all registered as national tangible cultural properties.
