Hannyato for Koyasan — born of offerings to a World Heritage shrine.
Hatsusakura Shuzo, founded in 1866 in Katsuragi at the foot of Koyasan, traces its origin to sake offered to Niutsuhime Shrine, a World Heritage site. Its main house and kura are registered Tangible Cultural Properties, and it holds to a strict principle: rice, water and brewers all from Wakayama, keeping the kawakami-zake tradition of the upper Kinokawa alive. Its Koyasan Hannyato — the temple town's traditional name for sake — is the signature. Tours and tasting flights on request.
