A Kahoku kura with 18 national gold medals since 1989, still brewing for its own community first.
Wada Shuzo has brewed in Kahoku, Yamagata since 1797, staying close to its local community even as its reputation has grown nationally. Since the start of the Heisei era in 1989, the kura has won gold at the National New Sake Awards eighteen times, alongside a grand prix at the U.S. National Sake Appraisal and a platinum prize at Kura Master. Its Aratama label spans from a Junmai Daiginjo brewed with the rare Yukimegami rice to a lighter Junmai Ginjo made with Tsuyahime.
