Since 1788 — 東置賜郡高畠町, Yamagata
A Takahata house since 1788 that brews only premium-grade sake, named for the goddess Benzaiten enshrined just behind the kura.
Goto Shuzoten was founded in 1788 in Takahata, Yamagata, under a quality-first policy: it brews only tokutei meishoshu, the premium sake grades, with no standard futsu-shu in its lineup. Rice comes largely from fields the brewery's own workers cultivate under contract, drawing on varieties like Yamada Nishiki, Aiyama and Dewa Sansan. Its Benten label, named for the goddess Benzaiten enshrined behind the kura, has won numerous golds at the National New Sake Awards along with trophies and platinum honors at the IWC and Kura Master.
