Wakura Shuzo traces to two older breweries: the Hara family, brewing Kanoyama sake in Kimitsu's Sadamoto area since the Edo period, and Ikeda Shuzo, brewing Seisen in Futtsu's Takeoka since 1874. The two merged in March 2006 to form Wakura, which still runs two separate kura — Takeoka for sake and Sadamoto for shochu, a rare combination in the Kanto region. Its Seisen label is brewed with clear water drawn from a deep well dug using the traditional Kazusa method.
