Since 1855 — 宗像市, Fukuoka
A Munakata brewery near Kyushu's UNESCO shrine sites, pressing sake the old way in a wooden fune trough.
Founded in 1855 in Munakata, Fukuoka — an area linked to nearby UNESCO World Heritage sites — Izu Honten brews using traditional fune-shibori (wooden trough) pressing with local groundwater and rice. Its Munakata Tokubetsu Junmai, made with locally grown Yamada Nishiki milled to 60%, reflects the brewery's regional focus. The kura also operates a shop and its own sake bar, welcoming visitors.
