A 1797 Tanba-Sasayama brewery whose Edo-era buildings are now a national cultural property — and a hands-on museum of old brewing tools.
Homei Shuzo has brewed in the castle town of Tanba-Sasayama since 1797, holding to the belief that sake is culture, and to an old-fashioned, full-bodied style of brewing. Its main building and brewing storehouse were designated a national Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2003. The brewery has also opened Horoyoi Jokagura, a tour facility where visitors can see the old tools once used in brewing alongside panels explaining the process.
