最古蔵(米)
Since 江戸時代創業 — 球磨郡水上村, Kumamoto
The oldest kura in Kuma shochu country, distilling rice spirit in a building framed with temple timber centuries old.
Matsushita Jozojo traces its start to 1804, when first-generation Jihei began distilling shochu in Mizukami, a village in Kumamoto's Kuma valley — making it, by tradition, the oldest kura in the Kuma shochu region. Now run by the 14th generation, the brewery works out of a building built partly with centuries-old timber salvaged from Shozen-in, known locally as the "cat temple." It makes only rice shochu, sold under the single label Saikogura.
