Wooden-vat brewing revived in Hokusai's chestnut town of Obuse.
Masuichi Ichimura Shuzojo, founded in 1755 in Obuse, still brews inside its Edo-period wooden buildings — and in 2000 revived kioke wooden-vat brewing. A small kura of about 300 koku a year, its labels include the yamahai wooden-vat Hakkin and the junmai Square One. The Teppa tasting counter pours for visitors at the kura.
