壱岐の華
Since 1900 — 壱岐市, Nagasaki
On Iki — the reputed birthplace of barley shochu — this house has distilled since 1900 under Japan's oldest shochu geographic indication.
Ikinohana traces to 1900, when founder Osada Kasuke moved from Kokura to Iki — the island regarded as the birthplace of barley shochu — and began distilling. The brand name Ikinohana was adopted during the Taisho era, and in 1995 "Iki Shochu" was designated a Geographic Indication production area. The house holds to atmospheric-pressure distillation of barley and rice koji, yielding a deep aroma and a mellow mouthfeel.
