A Konan kura whose early revival of the rare Watarabune rice helped lead Shiga's sake-rice renaissance.
Kitajima Shuzo was founded in 1805 in Konan, Shiga; its roots trace back further still, to a village headman who migrated from Harima province in 1664. The kura brews two distinct lines — Miyosakae, its standard label, and Kitajima, reserved for more experimental sake — and was an early mover in reviving Watarabune, a once-endangered sake rice, helping lead a broader renaissance in Shiga's sake-rice culture.
