Kinkame — brewed by order of the lords of Hikone, in the old way still.
Okamura Honke was founded in 1854 on the orders of the Ii family, lords of Hikone; its label Kinkame takes the castle's other name, Golden Turtle Castle. More than 170 years on, the house still steams rice in a koshiki, makes koji on wooden trays, brews in small 900kg batches and presses in a wooden fune with cloth bags — using only certified environmentally friendly rice from neighbouring Yoshida. Tours run 9:00–17:00, with parking for coaches.
