Since 1870 — 米沢市, Yamagata
A Yonezawa brewery whose signature label, Gasanryu, began as the toji's secret side project.
Shindo Shuzoten has brewed in Yonezawa, Yamagata, since 1870. Its best-known label, Gasanryu, began almost by accident: while brewing the house's original brand, Kurouzaemon, the brewer quietly made one batch to his own taste — and it grew into a line of its own. The house takes its philosophy from the phrase 'mountains do not move, rivers flow,' brewing without being bound by convention, and Gasanryu has since drawn national attention for its aromatic style.
