Since 1647 — 名古屋市, Aichi
The Nagoya house behind Kuheiji sake — and, improbably, a winery in Burgundy's Morey-Saint-Denis.
Banjo Jozo has brewed in Nagoya since 1647 and is now run by its 15th-generation owner. Its sake, sold as Kuheiji, is built around terroir and vintage — the brewery grows its own rice in paddies in Kuroda-sho and Okayama, and has extended that philosophy across the world by opening a winery, Domaine Kuheiji, in Morey-Saint-Denis, France. The kura itself is not open to visitors; Kuheiji is sold only through its online shop and authorized retailers.
