Since 1944 — 由利本荘市, Akita
A Yurihonjo brewery forged from a 1944 wartime merger, now pairing dry, food-friendly sake with rare heirloom Kameno-o rice.
Akita Homare Shuzo traces back to 1944, when Japan's wartime business-consolidation order merged several local sake makers into a single brewery in Yurihonjo, Akita. The kura leans into the region's cold climate, with its brewers working as one team to produce sake built around a clean, dry (karakuchi) style. Alongside its core Akita Homare label, the brewery also makes the Akita Bijin line, which includes a special ginjo brewed with the rare heirloom rice Kameno-o. Bottles are sold at Akita Station, Akita Airport and roadside stations across the prefecture.
