秀よし
Since 1689 — 大仙市, Akita
Named for both Hideyoshi and the words "excellent and good", brewing in Akita since 1689.
Founded in 1689, Suzuki Shuzoten traces its beginning to the early Edo period, when the son of an oil merchant from Ise moved to Akita and began brewing at Nagano village, a place favoured with rice and water. The name of its sake, Hideyoshi, was coined to hold two meanings at once: the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and the phrase hidete yoshi — excellent and good. The house has more than three hundred years of brewing behind it, and once held the warrant of the Satake domain.
