Since 1897 — 伊賀市, Mie
A tiny Iga brewery revived by a manga: Moriki Rumiko returned home after reading Natsuko no Sake and turned it all-junmai.
Moriki Shuzojo has brewed in Iga, Mie, since 1897, converting entirely to junmai (pure-rice) sake in 1999 and using no added alcohol. Its flagship, Rumiko no Sake, is named for Moriki Rumiko, the woman who returned to revive her family's kura after being moved by the manga Natsuko no Sake; the manga's creator, Ose Akira, later drew the brewer's own portrait for the label himself. Output stays small, around 300 koku (about 54,000 liters) a year, aimed at a restrained, food-friendly style that lets a meal lead.
