Named for the ninja Hattori Hanzo, this seventh-generation Iga house poured the toast at the 2016 G7 Ise-Shima Summit.
Founded in 1892 in Iga, Mie — legendary home of the ninja — Ota Shuzo brews Hanzo, named for the famed ninja Hattori Hanzo, and has stayed in the family for seven generations. The brewery draws on well water from within its own grounds and favors local rice: Iga-grown Yamada Nishiki and Kami no Ho, a sake-rice variety bred exclusively in Mie Prefecture. In 2016, Hanzo Junmai Daiginjo was chosen as the toast sake for the opening working dinner of the G7 Ise-Shima Summit.
