The Story of 中谷酒造

The Nakatani family's business in Yamatokoriyama, Nara, traces back to 1702, when it began as a rice merchant before moving through grain and cotton trading. It turned to sake brewing in 1853, taking root in the town's Banjo-cho district. Brewing paused in 2020, but in 2022 the family restarted at Yanagimachi Brewery, inside Koriyama's old castle town, this time as Sake Asaka — a hands-on brewing program and microbrewery-cum-sake-bar that ferments in vessels of less than 100 liters.
