An Ureshino brewery that grows its own rice, chasing a name that means 'best in the East.'
Gochoda Shuzo has brewed in Ureshino since 1922 under the motto 'sake brewing that raises its own rice,' growing rice in its own paddies as part of the process from field to bottle. Its label, Azumaichi — 'number one in the East' — reflects an ambition to brew the finest sake in the region, centered on Yamada Nishiki rice and slow, low-temperature ginjo fermentation. The result has made Azumaichi one of Saga's best-known names nationwide.
