A Matsue brewery named for a Tang-dynasty poet who loved wine, carrying Izumo's mythic sake traditions forward.
Rihaku Shuzo has brewed in Matsue since 1882, taking its name from Li Bai (Rihaku in Japanese), the Tang-dynasty poet celebrated for his love of wine. The brewery sees its mission as passing on the sake-brewing traditions that appear in Izumo's ancient myths, alongside the region's food culture, continuing to produce mellow, rounded sake true to that lineage. It has been designated a Regional Future-Leading Company by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
