Since 1872 — 小山市, Tochigi
Mongaifushutsu — cultural-property kura, transparent tanks, and Tochigi's first whisky.
Nishibori Shuzo, founded in 1872 in Oyama, brews Mongaifushutsu ("never leaves the gate") and Wakazakari inside buildings registered as National Tangible Cultural Properties since 2008. It is Japan's only kura brewing in transparent tanks — its Clear Brew experiments extend to LED light exposure — and it exports to eight countries. On the same grounds it runs the Nikko Kaido Oyama Distillery, maker of Tochigi's first Japanese whisky, TETSU. Tours by reservation.
