An 1889 brewery in Inami's temple town of wood-carvers, named for a young colt galloping toward the sky.
Wakakoma Shuzojo was founded in 1889 in Inami, Nanto — a town that grew up around Zuisenji temple and is famed for its wood carving. The kura draws spring water from the upper reaches of the Shogawa River and uses Gohyakumangoku rice grown with care by local Toyama farmers, aiming for a crisp, dry and clear-tasting sake. Its name, Wakakoma ('young colt'), reflects a wish that the sake be loved as widely as a young colt galloping toward the sky. The premium Junmai Ginjo-class sake is sold under a separate label, Yaotome.
