A "brewery living with agriculture" in Sanyo-Onoda whose Yamazaru label has won national gold twice.
Nagayama Shuzo has brewed in Sanyo-Onoda since 1890, moving its headquarters to Asa in 1932 when it incorporated as a godo-gaisha. The brewery calls itself a "kura that lives with agriculture," building its sake around the region's own farming. In 2002 it released Yamazaru, brewed with rice from the Misumi sake-rice growers' group, which went on to win gold at the National New Sake Tasting Fair in both 2009 and 2014. Since opening the Yamaguchi Winery in 1999, the company has also made fruit wine and the shochu Netaro.
