STORY

The Story of 中村酒造

Nakamura Shuzo was founded in 1902 and began brewing sake in 1914, in Hagi — the castle town at the heart of the Meiji Restoration — beside the Ubakura Canal, built in 1855 by the 13th Choshu lord, Mori Takachika. Its flagship, Takarabune ('Treasure Ship'), takes its name from the sight of fishing boats celebrating a big catch of shirouo, tiny icefish taken each spring with hand-held yotsude nets — a scene of good fortune and prosperity. The sake has won gold three times at the National New Sake Awards.
