The Aizu house named world's best sake at the 2015 IWC, then gifted to G7 leaders the year after.
Founded in 1918 in Kitakata, in Fukushima's Aizu region, Homare Shuzo took the world's top prize in the sake category at the International Wine Challenge in 2015. The following year its sake was chosen as a gift for the heads of state at the G7 Ise-Shima Summit. The brewery's guiding idea is simple: to make things that bring peace, joy and genuine feeling. Its retail hall, Unreian, sits inside a roughly 4,300-square-meter Japanese garden.
