One of Kitakata's dozen sake houses, now rebuilding after a heavy snowfall cracked its roof tiles in February 2026.
Obara Shuzo is one of twelve sake breweries in the city of Kitakata, Fukushima, where it makes its flagship Kurashu alongside labels like the Junmai Daiginjo 'Kangengaku' (Orchestra) and the unfiltered Junmai Ginjo 'Saisei' (Rebirth). The kura also houses a gallery, the Retro-kan. In February 2026, heavy snow caused roof tiles to collapse, forcing a temporary closure while repairs are underway.
