Since 1850 — 会津若松市, Fukushima
An Aizuwakamatsu brewery split across two kura since 1850, one a nationally registered cultural property open for free tours.
Suehiro Shuzo traces its start to 1850, when founder Inokichi struck out on his own from the Shinjo family to begin brewing. The house today runs two kura: Kaei-gura, a nationally registered tangible cultural property, and Hakase-gura. Both draw on the rice and water of the Aizu region to produce a range of styles. Kaei-gura offers free, no-reservation tours of about 30 minutes for individuals, plus an attached cafe, Anzu; Hakase-gura is not open to visitors.
