An Iwaki house still brewing inside its Meiji-era kura, near the Pacific fishing port.
Shikesyuzouten Matabey was founded in 1882 in the Uchigo Takasaka area of Iwaki, Fukushima, and the family still brews inside a kura built during the Meiji era. The house was incorporated as a limited partnership in 1934, and its Fukumi label won an excellence award at the 1936 National Sake and Soy Sauce Competition. The brewery sits near a fishing port on Iwaki's Pacific coast.
