Since 1803 — 桜川市, Ibaraki
Four cultural-property kura buildings and VR tours under Mt. Tsukuba.
Murai Jozo, founded in 1803 in Sakuragawa, Ibaraki, brews Komei, Makabe and Hanadayori with the subsoil water of Mt. Tsukuba. Four of its brewery buildings are registered National Tangible Cultural Properties, keeping the Edo-era brewing streetscape alive. Makabe Junmai Ginjo was selected for the 2024 Ibaraki Design Selection, and joint research with the prefectural innovation centre was presented at the 2024 Brewing Society of Japan symposium. The kura offers both physical and VR tours.
