Since 1955 — 一関市, Iwate
A community brewery in Ichinoseki tracing its roots to 1858, whose Iwate Homare was born when two family kura merged in 1955.
Iwate Meijo's Chiaki plant traces its lineage back to 1858, when brewing began under the name Mutsu no Tomo ("Friend of Mutsu"). In 1955 the Oikawa and Yoshida family breweries joined forces to found Iwate Meijo Co., giving rise to the brand Iwate Homare. This plant in Chiaki, opened in 2005, brews entirely with Iwate-grown rice, working closely with local farmers to produce everyday sake meant to accompany the region's food.
