An Iwate house whose sake reaches more than fifty countries, brewed to the creed of a sun-warm smile.
Founded in 1902 in Ninohe, northern Iwate, Nanbu Bijin has become the prefecture's best-known name abroad, exporting to more than fifty countries. The brewery carries on the techniques of the Nanbu toji (master brewers' guild) and states its brewing ideal plainly: sake like the sun, that fills you with a smile when you drink it. Its Tokubetsu Junmai was named Champion Sake at the International Wine Challenge, and the original wooden, earthen-walled kura that has supported the brewing since 1902 still stands as the hongura.
