Since 1944 — 大船渡市, Iwate
Wiped out by the 2011 tsunami in Rikuzentakata, brewing again in Ofunato for the Sanriku coast.
Suisen Shuzo is a long-established brewery on Iwate's Sanriku coast, historically brewing sake to complement the region's seafood. The 2011 earthquake and tsunami destroyed its kura in Rikuzentakata, and the house rebuilt in Ofunato under a simple creed: sake you never tire of drinking, made with light koji work and clear water. Its Yukikko, a lively, unfiltered nigori, is well known nationwide.
Unfiltered, live sake (kassei genshu) — a winter-only release
Tokubetsu Junmai, unpasteurized undiluted sake (nama genshu) — a locally focused limited release
Junmai Ginjo, unpasteurized undiluted first-press (arabashiri) — made with Iwate's ginjo-grade rice
