Since 1843 — 阿賀町, Niigata
A 180-year-old dry-sake specialist on the Aizu border, brewed entirely from rice grown in its own Okuaga valley.
Kirinzan Shuzo has brewed since 1843 in Tsugawa, a town on the Fukushima border touched by Aizu culture, in the Agacho hills. Over more than 180 years it has become one of Niigata's defining names in tanrei karakuchi — the region's clean, dry house style — using rice grown entirely within the Okuaga valley through partnerships with local farmers. The brewery also runs tree-planting programs to protect the surrounding mountains that supply its water, and offers small, reservation-only tours of the kura.
