Tamagawa Shuzo, founded in 1673 in Uonuma, has brewed for over 350 years with the snowmelt water of the Uonuma mountains. It is one of Niigata's most welcoming kura: tours run 9:00–16:00 with no reservation, ending in free tastings of about ten sakes. Its Itokki junmai ginjo took the top prize at the Fine Sake Awards, and the Echigo Yukikura daiginjo genshu sleeps in a snow cellar.
